THOMAS WILLIAM ABRAMS of Rome, Pennsylvania (July 26, 1932 - November 14, 2018) He coached the girls’ softball team at Towanda High School over several years, during which they won the league title. Following retirement he coached boy’s elementary basketball at the Northeast Bradford school district. For 29 years, Tom served Stevens Township as a secretary, treasurer, and supervisor. At Wysox EMS he served as both the board and corps treasurer for 24 years. He was a Covenant Partner at Rome Presbyterian Church. Tom was devoted to civic life and shared his natural capacity to see the big picture that led to new service programs. He got great enjoyment from baseball and basketball and supported local teams and players in many ways. Tom loved all aspects of gardening and celebrated the bounty. His wit and quick mind left an impression! In August 1998, Tom married his surviving wife Sylvia Radway Abrams. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his first wife Helen, four sisters, Bernice Arey, Genevieve Kelly, Althea Abrams, and Reva Caswell; and he is survived by his sons, William C. Abrams of Boca Raton, FL; Robert M. Abrams (Kimberly) of Huntersville, NC; David S. Abrams of Liverpool, NY; and Allen P. (Janice) Radway of Philadelphia, PA; and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. at the Rome Presbyterian Church, with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Karen Ballard, officiating. Interment will be at a later date in the Wyalusing Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday morning at the church from 9:00 A.M. until the start of the service at 11:00 A.M. ACKLEY, MRS, CAROLINE ACKLEY LLOYD, one of the most esteemed ofWyalusing’s older ladies, died at her home on Church street Sunday morning at 3o’clock after great suffering from burns received from the catching fire of herclothes while burning leaves back of her home Friday morning. Mrs. Lloydlived with her son, H. J. Lloyd, and on Friday, she was in the yard in the rearof the home raking leaves and burning them. While standing near the fire,the blaze in some manner communicated to her clothes and in a very short timeshe was enveloped in the flames. Neighbors and her family ran to herassistance and succeeded in smothering the flames, but not until she had beenterribly burned about her body, and in fact blistered from head to foot, andnot until the clothes had been almost burned from her body. The familyphysician was called and everything was done to save her life, but with out availand while she was made as comfortable as possible she gradually grew weakertill the end came on Sunday morning. Mrs. Lloyd whose age was 77 was adaughter of Benjamin Ackley, the family originally coming from Connecticut andsettling on the Ackley farm in Wyalusing Township. After her marriage toAlphonso J. Lloyd, she and her husband lived for a time at Orwell but latermoved to this place where about a half century of her life has beenspent. Her husband died about thirty years ago. Since which time shehad lived with her son. Mrs. Lloyd was beloved by all who knew her.She has been for years a member of the Methodist church of this place. Wedo not need words to tell those with whom she associated in life that she hadmet Jesus by the way and talked with Him, for the joy and peace of Christ shonein her face. The funeral services were held in the Methodist churchyesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. E. E. Barker, her pastor, officiating;the interment was in the Wyalusing Cemetery.

ACKLEY ELIZABETH
Becker, Mrs. Elizabeth Ackley -Wyalusing, Nov 11-one of the community’s highlyesteemed women, died Sunday afternoon at the home of her brother, Frank GAckley, with whom she had lived for the past few years at the family homestead.Mrs. Becker had been ill for two weeks, having been taken sick while caring forher last surviving sister, Mrs. Ruth A Moffitt, who was buried at BinghamtonOctober 26. Born in Wyalusing Township April 23, 1866, Mrs. Becker was thedaughter of Benjamin Ackley and Amanda Chamberlain Ackley. She marriedFrederick H Becker Sept 14, 1907 at the Ackley homestead. During World Wars Iand 2 she did much knitting for the Red Cross Chapter, She was a member ofMach-wi-hilusing Chapter of the D A R, the Fortnightly Club and the WyalusingMethodist Church. In addition to her brother, Frank, she is survived by twonieces and several nephews. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon, Nov 12at 2 o’clock at the Tiffany chapel with the Rev. S S Robbins officiating.Interment will be in the Wyalusing cemetery.

ACKLEY - Well Known Eddy & Wilkes-Barre Lady Passes Away - Mrs.Callie A. Brown, widow of Charles G. Brown of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., formerly ofSkinner's Eddy, Pa., died at her home in Wilkes-Barre Saturday morning, April2, 1932 of complications. The deceased was a daughter of Demon and AbigailLacey Ackley and was born on Spring Hill, Pa., where she spent her earlychildhood until she attended school at Towanda, after which she became ateacher. Mrs. Brown was united in marriage to Charles G. Brown on May 2, 1883.She spent her early married life at Skinner's Eddy, until 1904, when the familymoved to Wilkes-Barre. Her husband preceded her in death about nine years ago.She is survived by four children; T. Elliott Brown, Forty-Fort, Pa.; Eva, wifeof Dr. Charles J. Higgs, Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; Ruth, wife of John A. Woolbert,Youngstown, Ohio; Mildred, wife of Paul Neely, Wilkes-Barre, Pa. There are twograndchildren, Robert Higgs and George Neely. Mrs. Brown was a member of theCentral Methodist Episcopal Church of Wilkes-Barre and also affiliated with theAid Society of the same church. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at11 o'clock, April 5, 1932 at her home, Rev. Dr. H.L. Randolph, pastor ofCentral M.E. church officiated. NEWELL S. ACKLEY, one of the prominent farmers of this section of thecounty, and one of the best loved and most highly respected of our citizens,was overcome by the heat Thursday afternoon, while fighting a brush fire near avaluable tract of timber on his farm. During the morning Mr. Ackley wasabout the farm sewing oats and at noon he came to the house feeling tired andafter dinner laid down for a time to rest. Shortly after he concluded toburn up some brush on a field back of his home, and without doubt it was theover exertion of keeping this fire from spreading that was the direct cause ofhis death, along with the extreme heat of the day. The family becomingalarmed at his not returning in the evening made as thorough a search as waspossible and also notified the neighbors of their fears for his safety, and atabout 9:30 o’clock that evening his dead body was found seated by a fence inthe field where he had worked during the afternoon. Mr. Ackley was bornon the farm where he spent the balance of his life on July 17, 1849, he thusbeing almost 59 years of age, and on October 22, 1872. He was united inmarriage to Miss Mary Miller. To this ideal home there were born a familyof six children, two of whom, besides the wife, survive, Bertha, who is marriedto Charles Brown of Tuscarora township, and Royal, who lives on the oldhomestead farm. Mr. Ackley was a gentleman well known and highly esteemedin his neighborhood, and it has been said of him that he had more friends wonby his ideal character and life than any other man in this section of thecounty. For many years he has been an official member of the MethodistEpiscopal Church of this borough, and of the hours of beautiful service andyears of faithfulness for Christ’s sake and in His name only He who knoweth allhas a full record. The church and community suffers a great loss, butwill keep in lasting remembrance that in our midst he lived a most consistentChristian life, building up a character of sterling worth. Thefuneral services were held at the Ackley home Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock.Rev. E. E. Barker officiating. The pallbearers were the officials of thechurch of which Mr. Ackley was a member. The interment was in the familyplot in Wyalusing Cemetery.

ACLA –BESSIE BENNETT, 92, of Wyalusing, Pa., died on Thursday, July31, 1997, at the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Memorial Hospital, Towanda,Pa. Bessie was born on May 18, 1905 in Durell, Pa., the daughter of thelate Stephen and Nora Benjamin Acla. She lived and went to school onNorway Ridge and moved to Wyalusing after marrying Augustus (Gus) Bennett onOct. 28, 1925, Gus predeceased her in November of 1985. For many years,Bessie was an active member of the Wyalusing United Methodist Church and theWyalusing “WSCS” Women’s Society of Christian Service (no called the UnitedMethodist Women). Bessie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother,great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She especially loved theholidays, which she made special for all her family. ADAMS –KATHRYN ADAMS VANDEMARK, 91 Wyalusing died July 17, 1998 inMemorial Hospital, Towanda. Born October 1, 1906 in Ricketts, ColleyTwp., she was the daughter of the late Alva and Ida Snyder Adams. On June2, 1937 she married S. Frank VanDeMark, Sugar Run. She and Frank begantheir family while working on the family farm on Sugar Hill and later theyowned and operated the Hollenback General Store until the early 1950s.They moved to Wyalusing where Frank worked on a farm on Third Street until heretired on June 2, 1970. She spent much of her time with her husband andfamily. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother andalways found time to spend with her family. She enjoyed the birds aroundher home and the quiet time to read a book. Memberships include:Wyalusing United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the localsenior citizens organization. RAYMOND A. ADAMS, 71, Sugar Run, PA RR1, died atthe Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock, December 20, 1997 after a suddenillness. Born in Sugar Run, February 28, 1926, he was the son of the lateAlva and Ida Mae Snyder Adams. He was a graduate of the Wyalusing HighSchool class of 1943. He then went into the US Navy, serving as a seamanfirst class in the Pacific Theater from 1943 until 1945. Later hereturned to the Sugar Run area, where he was a dairy farmer until his retirementin 1985. Mr. Adams was a member of the Wyalusing American Legion Post No.534 and the Wyalsuing V. F. W. Predeceasing him was his first wife, theformer Rebecca Allen in 1972. Surviving are his wife, the former NellieRussick; son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Dorothy Ann Adams, Sugar Run;son, Harold Adams, Tucson, AZ; daughters, Mrs. Patricia Thompson, SanFrancisco, CA, Mrs. Al (Nancy) Callaway, Little Rock, AR; sisters, Mrs. MilaMay, Canton, Mrs. Irene DeWolf, Jenningsville, PA, Mrs. Katherine VanDeMark,Wyalusing, PA; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; several nieces andnephews. ALLYN –GENEVIEVE ALLYN AREY, formerly of Wyalusing, Pa. and Towanda, Pa. passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at the Sayre Health Care Center, at the age of 100. She was born in Warren Center, Pa. on Dec. 9, 1914, a daughter of George H. and Naomi Rogers Allyn. Gen graduated from LeRaysville High School in 1932 and Mansfield State Teachers College in 1934 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught grades 1-6 in West Warren for two years and then taught grades 1-3 in Warren Center for seven years. She married Glenn W. Arey, on May 24, 1939 at the Methodist Parsonage in Wyalusing. She and Glenn purchased Palmer's Hardware and Variety Store in 1945. Gen managed what became Arey's Variety Store until they sold it in 1967. She taught Sunday school at the Wyalusing Methodist Church and was a member of the Live Wire's class and United Methodist Women. She was a founding member of the Wyalusing Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 523. She was a Grand Worthy Matron and Past Worthy Matron. Gen was also a Grand Representative from Pennsylvania to Kansas. In 1969, the Areys moved to Wysox where Glenn had relocated his lumber business. They were members of the Towanda First United Methodist Church. She became a member of the Towanda Chapter Order of Eastern Star No. 76 when the Wyalusing Chapter disbanded. Gen loved to play cards and always had the cards ready whenever someone would visit. She looked forward to the Monday lunch/card group. The family is grateful to Joyce VanDusen for making sure Gen got there every Monday. Also, they want to thank her church family for providing transportation for Sunday church services. Surviving are her daughters, Janice (Bob) Lindsay, Jeannette (Tom) Bates, and Patricia (Ron) Stadelmaier; seven grandsons, Tom (Ann) Bates, Jeffery Bates, David (Dawn) Bates, Michael Stadelmaier, Steven (Cody) Stadelmaier, Doug Stadelmaier, Rob Lindsay; a granddaughter, Rebecca (Mike) Lindsay Lord; and nine great-grandchildren. She was also a special Aunt Gen to many nieces and nephews. She married Robert Loyack, Sr. ofWyalusing on April 18, 1959. Bob predeceased her on Dec. 4, 1999. She worked asa receptionist at Ottavani’s Optometrist Office for 34 years, retiring in 1999.Laura was a member of the Wyalusing United Methodist Church, Wyalusing.She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends as well as playingsoftball, hunting and bowling where she was the Wyalusing Women’s BowlingLeague secretary for years. Margaret E. Arey, age 90, of Wyalusing, died late Sunday evening at TylerMemorial Hospital in Tunkhannock, Pa. She was born on July 30, 1917, in WilmotTownship, Bradford County, Pa., a daughter of the late Elmer G. and Lela PotterArey. Margaret was a member of the Wyalusing United Methodist Church. Her othermemberships include the United Methodist Women, and Wyalusing Grange. Shewas a former member of the Wyalusing Chapter No. 524, Order of the EasternStar, later transferring to Meshoppen Chapter No. 70. Margaret is a fifty-yearmember. Prior to her retirement she was formerly employed by AmericanMeter, and by the Wyalusing Area School District as high school cafeteriastaff. Marian was born in Towanda the daughter of Francis William Baker and Marjorie L. Rockwell Baker. She was a graduate of Towanda High School. Marian’s main interest in life was in her home and family. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens and was a member of the Towanda Garden Club. Marian also enjoyed crafts, bowling, and hunting in early years. She is survived by her sons, Ray (Sandy) Thurston III of North Towanda, Jeffery (Melissa) Thurston of Towanda, Tim Thurston of North Towanda, grandchildren, Ray Thurston IV, Misty Thurston, Tony Spencer, Kevyn Thurston, and Timothy Raymond Thurston, great grandchildren, Riley, Zeryk, and Lucas Thurston, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a special cousin Nancy Montgomery of Towanda. WILLIAM M. BAKER, age 94, of Wyalusing, Pa., formerly of New Albany, Pa., passed away on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 21, 2014 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. He was born on Feb. 6, 1920 in Columbus, Ohio. He was the only son of the late Andrew M. and Nada Flickinger Baker. The family moved to Mansfield, Pa., in 1933. He went on to graduate from Mansfield High School with the class of 1937. He married the former Eulala Buchanan of Mansfield in 1940. Bill served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945 during World War II. He is survived by his three children, Marsha Eaton, Marie Waring, and Sam Baker and their spouses and children, as well as step-children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Eulala, "Ukie" Baker, by his son-in-law, James Eaton and by his grandson John Eaton. Active in Community affairs, Mr. Baker was Commander of the American Legion Post No. 478 in Mansfield, Pa. and a member of the American Legion Post No. 42 in Towanda, Pa. and Post No. 534 in Wyalusing, Pa. He was a member of the American Legion for over 60 years. He was a member of the Evergreen Masonic Lodge No. 163 of Monroeton, Pa. He was active in Boy Scouts for 25 years, starting a troop in New Albany, Pa., and leading a trip to Philmont in New Mexico. He was awarded the "Silver Beaver" award in 1985 for his service to scouting. In addition to Scouting, Bill was a long time member of the United Methodist Church, serving as lay minister, serving on the board of the Laporte Methodist Home and holding several church lay offices. He served on the New Albany Borough Council as a member and secretary, was a charter member of the New Albany Rotary Village Corp, supporting its efforts to revitalize the village. He served, as well, on the Wyalusing School Board for 16 years and the County School Board for 6 years. Bill was employed by Penelec (now GPU Energy) for 37 years. His greatest pleasure in life was his family. Memorial Services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Internment will be at a later date at the Wyalusing Borough Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the members of the Wyalusing American Legion Post No. 534. DENNIS R. BARNES age 75 of Pine City, NY passed away on April 20, 2015 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Elmira, NY. Dennis is the son of the late Cedric and Luana Riker Barnes. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 wonderful years, Bonnie, who was at his side when he passed; sons, Mitchell Barnes and Randy (Annette) Barnes; grandchildren, Corinna, Alexis, Danielle; step-grandchildren, Ashley, and Nicole; great grandchildren, Bradlee, Juliana, and Asher; sisters, Janet Cleveland and Carol (Ronald) Collins. He was predeceased by his brothers, Gary and Lynn Barnes. Dennis served in the Navy Reserve and retired from the Elmira Star Gazette after many years of service. He was a Life Member of the Golden Glow Fire Department, an avid New York Yankees fan, and a School Crossing Guard in West Elmira. Dennis was an avid golfer and after 53 years of playing golf he had his first hole in one in 2012. He loved being with his family and thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. BENNETT -FLORENCE 'FLOSSIE' BENNETT KNOLLES, age 94, formerly of Wyalusing, PA, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019 at the Towanda Personal Care Home, where she had been residing for the last 3 ½ years. Flossie was born on Oct. 22, 1925 in Plainfield, NJ the daughter of the late Alfred and Florence Eager Bennett Sr. She was a graduate of North Plainfield High School in New Jersey with the class of 1943. She married her husband, Harry Edward Knolles Jr. on May 5, 1946. They were married for 50 years before he passed away on Sept. 7, 1996 and raised nine children. She was employed as a secretary for Mack Motors in Plainfield, NJ. After her and her husband moved to the Wyalusing area, they opened Mountainside Lanes in March of 1963. Flossie was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 534 in Wyalusing where she organized numerous dinners for many years. She was a former member of the Wyalusing Lioness Club. She took great pleasure in hosting and participating in the bowling leagues at Mountainside Lanes and attending the state bowling tournaments. She took pride in winning her school’s spelling bee by beating eighth graders when she was in seventh grade. She adored the former American Idol contestant, Aaron Kelly, and even told him before he was on the show that he was going to be a famous star one day. She loved going to the casinos and scratching her instant lottery tickets. Melvin L. Bennett of Maple Heights, Cleveland, Ohio,formerly of Wilmot, died suddenly on Oct. 8, 1985 at his home.

Mr. Bennett was born in Sayre and he lived in Wilmot for20 years. He then lived in Cleveland for 7 years. Mr. Bennett served 20 yearsin the Army. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict and the Korean War. Heheld the rank of staff sergeant and retired in 1982. Mr. Bennett was extremelyactive in the V.F.W. He was currently working or the Veterans Administration inCleveland. EDWIN L. BIDLACK JR., age 54, of Wyalusing, Pa. passed away tragically on Friday, June 13, 2019. Ed was born on July 13, 1964, in Towanda, Pa., son of Edwin L Bidlack Sr and Ruth I. Dyer Bidlack. He graduated from SRU High School in the class of 1983. Ed worked for Welles Mill Co for many years before leaving to start his own business, Bidlack’s Heating Co. Ed was an honest, hardworking, giving, and selfless husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Ed was a lifelong racecar driver and racing enthusiast. He traveled throughout the US to attend NASCAR and other races. He was known by his racecar #42 in the late model class. He and Candy loved to take camping trips and motorcycle rides all over the United States, stopping at State and National parks and other points of interest along the way. BIRD –ARLENE MARGARET YEAGER, 96, of Sayre, Pennsylvania passed away on February 12, 2016 at the Sayre Health Care Facility. Arlene was born on December 15, 1919 in Binghamton, New York a daughter of the late Lewis and Laura Bird. On January 2, 1943, she married the love of her life Richard H. Yeager in Washington State and worked for IBM during WWII. She was also a secretary for Whipple’s Lumber Yard in Laceyville, Pennsylvania and operated Pottery Exhibit on Lime Hill in Wyalusing, Pennsylvania until it closed in 1969. She then moved to Wysox in 1969 working for Dr. John McDonald Chiropractic ~ following her retirement she moved to Athens to be closer to her children. She was a 50 year member of the Wyalusing Legion Auxiliary. A loving wife and mother, Arlene treasured her family and made friends wherever she went. The staff loved her at the Sayre Health Care Facility, and Arlene always knew right where the fire alarms were! Arlene was predeceased by her husband Richard Yeager in June of 2005. BLAKE -CANDY MORRIS BIDLACK, age 60, of Wyalusing, Pennsylvania, passed away tragically on Friday, June 13, 2019.Candy was born on July 1, 1958, in Sayre, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Daniel L. Blake and Betty Morris. She attended Athens High School. She met and married Edwin Bidlack Jr. of Ulster, Pennsylvania in 1999. They recently celebrated their 20th anniversary.Candy was a selfless, loving, and kind mother, wife, grandmother and friend. She would go out of her way to help anyone anytime. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved crafting, especially making things for her grandchildren. She liked being at home, doing crossword puzzles and reading. Candy loved poetry and wrote numerous poems, with two of her poems having been published. She enjoyed nature, feeding the deer and other critters, planting flowers and gardening. Candy also loved her dogs, Mickey and Chrissy. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. KENNETH A. BODNAR, age 93, of Wyalusing, PA, passed away late Wednesday evening, June 7, 2017 peacefully in his sleep at his home. Ken was born on March 28, 1924 in Wyalusing, PA the son of the late Michael Bodnar and Gertrude Minier. He left Wyalusing Valley High School in December of 1942 to join the Marine Corps, but was awarded his high school diploma from Wyalusing Valley High School in the 2000’s. Ken served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a PFC from 1943 until being honorably discharged in January of 1946. He was stationed in the Asia Pacific area from July 1944 to December 1945. He fought on the island of Iwo Jima where he watched the raising of both the flags on Iwo Jima. Ken is a 50-year member of the Wyalusing American Legion Post #534. On January 21, 1947, Ken married the love of his life, the former Mabel Hatch and they remained in the Wyalusing area for the rest of their lives. In the early years of their marriage they settled at the Turrell Farm in Wilmot Township, where they worked the apple orchard for several years. They then bought the Ideal Lodge Tavern in Wyalusing, now known as The Ram Zone. They owned and operated the tavern for many years before moving to their current home in Merryall in the late 1950’s. Ken retired from the US Postal Service as a mail carrier in Wyalusing. Ken and Mabel loved to travel and visited many states. They would take month long trips across the United States to Alaska in a motor home with their daughter Janice and late son-in-law Harold Lindsay. In the longer winter months Ken did paint by number paintings that turned out amazing. He also did macramé, and also made handcrafted tin men, which can be seen in many homes in the area. Ken was an avid hunter and fisher. He managed to bring down a deer every year for many years. He went on hunting trips to Vermont, Canada, and Wyoming. He brought down an antelope in Wyoming, a bear in Vermont, as well as a moose and a bear in Canada. He also fished for salmon several years in Pulaski, NY and also in Canada. Surviving are his children Janice Brown and her husband Gerald Sr. of Maine, NY; Dawn Fehnel of Wyalusing, PA; Vivian Bodnar of Gering, NE; and Kenneth N. Bodnar of Wyalusing, PA; grandchildren Gerald Brown Jr. and his wife Anne; Gabriel Engisch; Doris Engisch Tuttle and her husband Charles; Nolan Clark; and Kathryn Fernandez and her husband Francisco; great-grandchildren Rebecca Brown; Caden, Talon, and Adrian Engisch; Chloe, Chase, and Cora Tuttle; and Kieran and Rowan Fernandez. Also surviving is his brother Ralph Bodnar (Edna) of Binghamton, NY; sister-in-law Betty Bodnar of the Bradford County Manor; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his wife Mabel (December 17, 2008), infant son, Val K. Bodnar (1955); brother, John L. Bodnar; son-in-law Harold H. BOONE - Beverly Boone Jones, age 83, wife ofRoy W. Jones, of Wyalusing, died at her home early Wednesday morning, January21, 2004. She is the daughter of the late Carlton Le Vern Boone and the lateIsabelle Hart Hosking Boone, and was born in Rochester, N.Y. on October 7,1920. Mrs. Jones graduated from East High School in Rochester, and was analumna of the College of William and Mary, Class of 1941, and was Class Agentfor a number of years. She was actively involved in the fund raising for theClass of 1941. She was also a very active in Girl Scouts, and was aGirl Scout Troop Leader and County Coordinator for Girl Scouts USA inRochester, and in Fort Myers, Florida. She was also a member of the AmericanAssociation of University Women for over 40 years. She has been a resident ofWyalusing since 1980. She is a member of the Wyalusing PresbyterianChurch. Mrs. Jones enjoyed gardening, travel, and their winter residencein Fort Myers, Florida. BOSWORTH –DOROTHY BOSWORTH TAYLOR, a lifelong resident of Wyalusingand, more recently, of Ocean Ridge, Fla., died at the home of her daughter inEnola, Pa., on Jan. 17, 2005. She was 87. Dorothy was born inWyalusing on July 12, 1917. She was the daughter of Reed S. Bosworth andAlice Reinhardt Bosworth. In her early years and before moving to StateStreet, Dorothy lived in the apartment above the C. H. Bosworth & Sonsgrocery store where her grandfather, Dr. Charles Bosworth, also had hisdoctor’s office. Dorothy graduated from Wyalusing High School in 1935 andfrom West Chester State Teacher’s College in 1939. She taught primaryschool for four years in East Athens and for 11 years in Wyalusing.During World War II, she worked summers at IBM in Binghamton, NY. Inaddition, beginning in 1952, Dorothy worked on the Wyalusing Election Board for25 years. Blesses with a beautiful soprano voice, Dorothy sang her firstsolo at the age of 3 when her mother was hostess for the Wyalusing MusicalSociety. As an adult, and in keeping with her musical interest andtalent, she became a member of the Wyalusing Musical Society until she and herhusband, Justus, began spending their winters in Florida. Dorothy alsosang for years on the choir of the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church, of which shewas a member, and sang with the Wyalusing Choraliers, a well-known singinggroup of many years ago. On June 26, 1948, Dorothy married JustusVinnette Taylor III of Wyalusing, who preceded her in death on May 28,1998. As his true partner in life, Dorothy often accompanied “Juddy,” ashe was known, as he traveled extensively throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland andsouthern New York State to buy cattle and other livestock for the Taylor familybusiness and meat packing company, J.V. Taylor Co. And, though she didnot play golf, Dorothy witnessed many of the golf rounds Juddy played at theTowanda Country Club, in Florida and in Grand Isle, Vt. Since 1959,Dorothy and Juddy spent memorable summers in Grand Isle, and since 1979,equally love the winters they spent in Ocean Ridge. Dorothy is survivedby her daughters, Alison of Enola, and by numerous cousins, nieces andnephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Bosworth ofHarrisburg, in 2003. BREWER –LAURA L. WANDELL, 85 of Troy RR 3 died on Sunday, Oct. 3,1993. She was born June 17, 1908 in Galeton, Pa. the daughter of Constantand Dora Mae Taylor Brewer. Mrs. Wandell was predeceased by her husband,Lewis A. Wendell in 1985 and one brother, William Ruff. Laura was veryactive in the church work in the Saco Area Baptist Church when she lived there.Later she was active in the Chemung Baptist Church, Chemung, N.Y. Shetaught Sunday school and played the piano. The main interest in her lifewas serving the Lord and being a good homemaker. She enjoyed crochetingand attending Bible conferences. Largely attended funeral services were held for Joseph Edward Bride, age 73, awell-known resident of Wyalusing, who died on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004. Funeralservices were held on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. in the Wyalusing UnitedMethodist Church, with the Rev. Diane Prentice, his pastor, officiating.Special music was provided by pianist Jeanne Woodruff. A poem was read byBrooke Hatton, his granddaughter, entitled, “My Dad,” which was written by hisdaughter, Kathy Bride Adams as a young girl. Sam Baker read a poem entitled,“The Lineman’s Prayer” and David Green sang a solo, “Oh, Danny Boy.” Family andfriends were invited to share witness to Joe, and several people gave specialtributes. An “Irish Blessing” was read by his daughters, Linda Porter and KathyAdams. Holy communion was offered by Pastor Diane Prentice. Servers were: DavidCook, Joel Zdon, assisting was Corrine Porter. Interment was in the WyalusingCemetery. Pallbearers were: Robert Irvine, Donald Miller, Samuel Baker, GaryRouse, George Ellis and Carlton Repsher. BROWN –ALICE L. BIGGINS, 77, of Browntown,Wyalusing RD 1, died Monday, Dec. 18, 1989 at the Bradford County Manorfollowing a lingering illness. She was born April 1, 1912 on the familyhomestead the daughter of the late Lacey and Mary Sink Brown. Mrs.Biggins was predeceased by her husband, Robert V. Biggins, in 1984. Herlate husband, Robert, drove school bus for many years. Students stillremember Mrs. Biggins as she always went on the school bus route from theBrowntown area to Wyalusing. Alice spent all of her lifetime in theWyalusing area. The family homestead was a century old farm. Mrs.Biggins was a member of the Women’s Society of Methodist Women’s Club and hadserved as president. She was a 50-year member of the WyalusingGrange. Mrs. Biggins was active in the Wyalusing United Methodist Churchand was a member of Mach-wi-hi-lusing Chapter of the DAR. She and herhusband were active with the Sugar Run Church for many summers. Mrs.Biggins is survived by several cousins. BROWN -LAURA LEE BAKER, age 72, of Wyalusing, PA passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at the Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. Laura Lee was born on June 20, 1949 in Towanda, PA the daughter of the late Floyd M. (d. October 3, 1995) and Doris M. Newman Brown (d. January 2, 2011). She was a graduate of Wyalusing Valley High School with the class of 1969. After high school she was employed as a Seamstress with the AJ Dress Factory in Meshoppen, PA for over 20 years. She was also employed with Staff Management at the Proctor and Gamble Plant, Carpenter Care with the kitchen staff, as a Home Health Aide. Laura Lee married David P. Baker on June 13, 1970 and were married for 24 years before his fatal tractor trailer accident on October 1, 1994. Laura Lee was a former member of the Wyalusing United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bowling in leagues at the Mountainside Lanes in Wyalusing. She took great pleasure in tending to her flower garden and house plants, as well as traveling, especially with her Mom to Atlantic City and Tioga Downs. Most of all she was devoted to her family, as her life revolved around her grandchildren. BROWN –RUTH PLACE WEAST, age 99, a resident of the Wyalusing Personal Care Home, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 14, 2015 at the Wyalusing Personal Care Home in Wyalusing, Pa. Ruth was born on Jan. 10, 1916 on Browntown Mountain, Pa., the daughter of the late Homer and Amy Mann Brown. She was the wife of John Place and Dr. Harry Weast. Ruth was a graduate of Wyalusing High School with the class of 1935. She worked as a dental assistant to Dr. Burns, for many years, in Wyalusing, PA. Ruth was a member of the Wyalusing United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Eastern Star Meshoppen Chapter No. 70 and she was a 50-year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution Mach-Wi-Hi-Lusing Chapter for five terms. Ruth also served as Judge of Elections for Wyalusing Borough. She was interested in flower gardens and enjoyed cooking. Ruth is survived by her children Barbara Behrend and her husband Dave of Wyalusing, Pa., Bob Place and his wife Mary Louise of Mehoopany, Pa.; grandchildren Bonnie Conrad of Houston, Texas, Dave Behrend Jr. and his wife Margaret of Saint Simon's Island, Ga., Heidi Behrend (Chuck Birk) of Wyalusing, Pa.; great-grandchildren Brock Conrad of Houston, Texas, Brandy Conrad of Houston, Texas, Kelsey Behrend of Saint Simon's Island, Ga., Connor Behrend of Saint Simon's Island, Ga., Skyler Behrend of Wyalusing, Pa.; great-great grandchildren Tory, Tara, and Bailey Conrad of Houston, Texas. BROWN Ruth Elizabeth Brown Smith

age 91, formerly of Sugar Run, died on Tuesday, May 15,2012 in Savannah, Ga. Ruth Morrow was born Nov. 22, 1920, in Sugar Run,.Daughter of the late Frank C. Morrow and Nellie Wheeler, she was one of fivechildren. Growing up on the banks of the Susquehanna River, she had ahalf-brother Charles; two sisters, Blanche (Morrow) Kissell and Edith (Morrow)Reed; and another brother, Wayne Morrow. After attending a single room schoolin Sugar Run, she continued her education at Wyalusing High School where shegraduated as valedictorian of the class of 1939. Ruth left Sugar Run for StateCollege, where she attended the Pennsylvania State College. In 1943 shegraduated from Penn State with a degree in journalism. On June 24, 1944,Ruth married Edward B. Brown Jr., of Hagerstown, Md., another Penn Stategraduate, who predeceased her in 1982. They had three children, Edward B. BrownIII, Linda (Sunshine) G. Brown and Gary B. Brown. Working as a journalist for ashort period, Ruth traveled to Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania supportingher family and Edward's work initially with the Maryland Forestry Departmentand then with the Boy Scouts of America for many years. Settling nearReynoldsville, Ruth was an active member of the community and her church. Shewas a Cub Scout den mother for over 25 years, earning the Boy Scouts of AmericaNational Silver Fawn Award for her service. Ruth was an active member of theBeachwoods Presbyterian Church and acted as its treasurer. She was also anactive volunteer with the Red Cross for over a decade, supporting deployedservice men and women. She was a member of the Washington Township ElectionCommittee and assisted in all election events. Ruth was always an avid reader,volunteer and participant in local schools and politics. She enjoyed quilting,the outdoors, and had a great talent for, and love of, flowers. In June of1989, Ruth married Robert Smith of Brockway, who predeceased her in 1989. Ruthhas seven grandchildren and relocated to Savannah, Ga. in 2005 to be near herdaughter, Linda (Sunshine) Weeter. The family would like to express theirsincere gratitude for the devotion and care given to our mother by LisaCopeland and Sonya Scott. age 85, of Laceyville, Pa., died on Saturday, Feb. 18,2012 at his home with his loving family at his side. Chris was born Sept.16, 1926 in Hazleton, Pa., a son of the late Charles Wesley and Matilda JaneWilliams Bullock. He graduated from the Wyalusing High School, a member of theclass of 1944. He enlisted in the Army in World War II and served inJapan. Returning from the war, he held a variety of jobs until 1958 whenhe became co-owner of O & B Heating and Plumbing of Wyalusing. After thecompany closed he continued to work in the heating business until he retired in1977. Chris was a member of the American Legion and the VFW and was pastcommander of the VFW Post No. 6072, Durell. He loved the outdoors and was anavid hunter and fisherman. Chris is survived by his wife of 42 years, theformer Laura Sites Bullock; his daughters Brenda (Charles) Ross, Raylene (Gary)Eveland and Debra (Conrad) Matz; step-daughters Rosemary (Al) Cender and Julia(Erling "Jug") Johnson; step-sons Robert (Kathy) Sluyter and James Sluyterand friend Dawn. BULLOCK Ellen Bullock Long

87, of Wyalusing, PA, died peacefully on the morning of Saturday,Nov. 5, 2011 at Montrose General Hospital, Montrose, PA. Mrs. Long wasborn in Hazleton in 1923 to Charles Wesley and Matilda Williams Bullock. Shewas a graduate of Wyalusing High School, Class of 1941. In 1944, she enlistedin the U.S. Marine Corps to serve for the “duration of National Emergency,” andserved at Cherry Point, NC. In January 1946, she married Carl John Long ofWilkes-Barre. They were happily married for nearly 52 years. Mr. Long died in1997. Mrs. Long was employed for many years by the Wyalusing ValleySchool District, and was later a partner in a Children’s Clothing Store inTowanda. Ellen and Carl loved to travel, and there were memorable and happytrips to Washington, DC, Cayuga Lake and two weeks spent in Canada every July whentheir daughters were teenagers, where the family fished, swam, water skied andtraveled through the lakes and locks with their boat. After Mr. Long retired,the Longs traveled the U.S.A. with a van and travel trailer for several years.Ellen had a hearty laugh and quick, dry wit. She adored her grandchildren, andshe and Carl always made each holiday very warm and special for the family andvisitors. Survivors include her daughter, Ellen Tyler of Endicott, NY;grandchildren James Brotzman of Endicott, NY, Jon Brotzman, his wife, Nancy,and great-granddaughter, Barbara of Savona, NY; daughter, Carol Farr, herhusband, Gary of Green Bay, WI, granddaughter, Michelle Farr Meyer, herhusband, Jeff; great-granddaughters, Payton and Olivia from Germantown, WI, andgranddaughter, Melanie Farr Kabele, her husband, Jeremy and great-grandsons,Colton and Barrett of Caledonia, WI. Mr. Ralph F. Burgess, age 87, of RR# 1 Box 212, Wyalusing, PA., diedunexpectedly at his home in Browntown, Thursday morning April 26,2007. Mr.Burgess was born in Forkston, Pa. on Sept. 25,1919, the son of the late Floydand Edna Hope Burgess. Growing up near and around the Forkston and Mehoopanyarea, he was a graduate of the Tunkhannock High School class of 1937. Allof his life, Mr. Burgess was a dairy farmer, starting with farms in Forkstonand Mehoopany, for over 20 years. For the last 37 years, he owned a dairy farmin Browntown, along US Route 6, in Wyalusing Twp. After selling most of hisdairy herd, he started selling farm equipment at his farm, for the last 20years. In his spare time, he and his wife enjoyed being together squaredancing, throughout Pennsylvania, and New York State. They also enjoyed manytrips to Atlantic City, and also many fishing trips to Canada, where they owneda cottage on Pike Lake, in Ontario. Surviving is his loving wife of 64years, the former Dorothy Place Burgess, with whom he celebrated theiranniversary on Wednesday April 25. His three daughters, Sandra Myhand, ofWyalusing, PA.; Sally and her husband Ron Davis, of Warren Center, PA.; andStacy and her husband Tim Hart, of Spring Lake, PA. His eight grandchildren,Winona Marie Walker, of Sealy, TX; Starene Louise Myhand, also of TX; Michaeland his wife Kim Davis, of Warren Center, PA.; Scott Davis, of Warren Center,PA.; Kimberly and her husband Steve Vaughn, of Penn Yan, N.Y.; Timothy Hart, ofNC.; Christopher Hart of Ariz..; and Thomas Hart, serving his country in thePersian Gulf, aboard the USS Bataan. He is also survived by six greatgrandchildren and one great great grandson, and several nieces and nephews.Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Marie Sussman in1970. BURKHART –G. REBECCA “BECKY” BURGESS, 70, of Wyalusing died in theearly morning of Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at her home with her loving family byher side. She was born on Nov. 12, 1932, in Ashboro, N.C., a daughter ofthe late Glen and Grace Quick Burkhart. Becky was raised in NorthCarolina and started working at the age of 14. She later married and hadtwo daughters. She worked in a hosiery mill in North Carolina, and laterlearned how to operate the key punch machine. Thereafter, she wasemployed by Hollingshead of Camden, NJ. She relocated to Pennsylvania,and worked for the Bendix Corp. of South Montrose. In 1964, she moved tothe Lime Hill area with her two daughters. She met her current husband,Donald Burgess, and was married in the Wyalusing United Methodist Church onJune 15, 1968. Becky and Don started her second family with a set oftwins. She stayed home to raise her family, and two years later startedworking at Farm & Home Gas Service as a secretary, and was bookkeeper forFarm & Home Furniture and the farm & Home Plaza on Route 6. Shewas co-owner of Farm & Home Gas Co. and the Wyalusing farm & HomeSupply Co. She retired on Dec. 31, 2000. She was a member of the WyalusingUnited Methodist Church and was a member of the United Methodist Women and wasan active member of the Wyalusing Lioness Club. Becky will certainly byremembered as being one of the kindest people, and she possessed a host offriends and family here and in North Carolina who loved her. Beckyloved young children and it was of great enjoyment to her to be SantaClaus. Many grew up and had never forgotten the joy she broughtthem. Her friends say, “God bless you, Becky Burgess.” Becky’sgreatest love in life was raising her two families, and she loved time spentwith them, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyedtime spent traveling. unexpectedly on Monday, Aug. 30, 2010. He was born on Sept. 5, 1947, inFort Lauderdale, Fla., a son of the late Robert M. Burns Sr. and Eleanor BerbecBurns. He is a graduate of Fort Lauderdale High School, and is a four-yearveteran of the United States Navy. On Dec. 12, 1976, he married the formerPamela Schroth in Camptown, Pa. Robert is a member of St. Mary's of theAssumption Catholic Church; Wyalusing American Legion Post No. 534; Towanda GunClub; a Legion board member; former Wyalusing fire chief; he served eight yearson the Wyalusing Borough Council; was a member of the Wyalusing Rainbow Club;and the Wyalusing Little League. Bob loved his community and history. Hishobbies include: R.C. Airplanes at Montrose Airport; he loved boating; Geo Caching;he enjoyed riding his Harley; and he was a NASCAR fan. He enjoyed huntingfishing, camping, horseback riding, and traveling. Bob found great pleasure inattending local sporting events, and especially loved supporting and attendingevents of his grandchildren. CAMP-Mrs. Rutan Is Laid at Rest-Mrs. J. L. Rutan dies Saturday AfterLong Period Of Illness-Mrs. J. L. Rutan, a lifetime resident of this sectionand for the past forty-one years a resident of Wyalusing borough, died at herhome in Wyalusing on Saturday afternoon January 14th, 1928, aged sixty-sixyears after almost a year of patient suffering from dropsy. Her condition hadbeen critical for several weeks and although every comfort and aid was extendedto her, the end came about 1:30 p.m. last Saturday. Funeral services, conductedby her pastor, Rev. E. L. Mathis, were held at her late home on Gaylord streetat 2 o'clock p.m. on Monday and burial was made at the Wyalusing cemetery. Mrs.Rutan is survived by her husband, one son, Byron E. CHAMBERLIN - Donald Lavern Chamberlin, 70, of New Albany, Pa., diedonThursday, April 2, 2009, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa.,surrounded by his loving family. Donald "Gadget" was born Nov. 11,1938, to the late Cleon and Camile (LaRue) Chamberlin, and graduated from theWyalusing Valley High School. He spent most of his life in the Wyalusing areaand worked at Taylor Packing for more than 47 years in several supervisorypositions, retiring from there in December 2006. During his retirement he hadbeen employed by Cargill buying cattle two days a week at the WyalusingLivestock Auction. He enjoyed hunting every November in Tupper Lake, N.Y., aswell as time spent on his snowmobile and four-wheeler. Survivors include hiswife, Jeanette, whom he married July 7, 1973; sons, Ben (Cheryl) Chamberlin ofWyalusing, Pa., Donald (Therese) Chamberlin of Factoryville, Pa., and Jim(Lisa) Berry of Wyalusing; daughters, Denise Stover of Meshoppen, Pa., andDanielle (Bobby Romano) Chamberlin, at home; and 10 grandchildren and twogreat-grandchildren. CHAMBERLIN –MRS. G. ARLINE BAKER, age 84, of 19 Cruver Court,Laceyville, Pa. (North Flat), died on Tuesday afternoon, July 20, 2004 at theHighlands Care Center, in Laporte, Pa. She was born in Auburn FourCorners, Pa. on Sept. 24, 1919, the daughter of the late Fred and Ethel HenryChamberlin. She was the wife of John Baker, who died June 20, 1974.Mrs. Baker was employed by American Meter, in Wyalusing, Pa.; Rinevelds, in NewAlbany, Pa. and retired from the A. J. Shoe factory, in Tunkhannock, Pa.She was a devoted member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 534, Wyalusing,Pa. She was also a charter member of the 40 & 8 Unit of Bradford,Potter, and Tioga Co. she was Past District President of the Bradford, Potter,and Tioga Co. Council. She was a member of the Moose Lodge of Tunkhannock,Pa. Arline was also a member of the Wyalusing MethodistChurch. Surviving are three daughters, Gail Rae and husband MeltonArmitage, of Laceyville, Pa.; donna and husband Skip Driggs, of Tunkhannock,Pa.; and Linda Sigman of Charleston, W.Va., a sister Wanda Wilson, of Vestal,N.Y. and 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, several nieces andnephews. CHILSON –DORIS LOUISE CHILSON JOHNSON, age 80, of Terrytown, PA passed away at her home on July 25, 2015 with her son, Ricky, by her side. She was born in Terrytown on November 18, 1934, the daughter of the late Allen and Helen Benjamin Chilson. She worked at Bendix and local sewing factories. Doris married Ronald “Ronnie” LaVern Johnson on December 31, 1955. After she was married she became a housewife and raised her six children. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Family was very important to her. She loved children, especially babies and enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren. She loved flowers, particularly roses and took pride in all the flower gardens she had. Doris enjoyed going to high school sporting events and Dunn Hill races with Ronnie. She liked to sew and put puzzles together. Doris was always very giving with donations, mainly to help children out. She will always be remembered for her smile and lending a helping hand. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Pam (Charles) Kingston of Wyalusing, PA, Linda (Bruce) Johnson, Sr., of Wyalusing, PA, Carol Bennett of Laceyville, PA, Ronald (Tammy) Johnson, Jr. of Wyalusing, PA, Randall Johnson of Wyalusing, PA, and Ricky (Anna) Johnson of Wyalusing, PA; her grandchildren Brian Kingston, Scott Kingston, Bruce Johnson, Jr., April Johnson, Jamie Whyte, Windy Corker, Julian Johnson, Kyle Johnson, Keely Johnson, and Katie Johnson; and 11 great-grandchildren. CHILSON -Mrs. FLORENCE MARIE HOOVER, age 88, of Wyalusing, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, March 6, 2020, at the Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital, Towanda. Florence was born on Jan. 29, 1932, in Sayre, Bradford County, a daughter of the late Allen Burton Chilson and Helen Benjamin Chilson Hoover. She attended the Terrytown School. She married Marshall Peasley Hoover and he predeceased her on March 8, 1977. She worked for many years at Bendix in Montrose, while farming, and the Meshoppen Hanger Factory, and the Towanda Memorial Hospital. Florence was a devoted wife to Marshall, and mother to Lorraine. She enjoyed seeing her grandchildren grow up, and recently had the joy of great-grandbabies. Family times and outings were important to her, and she also looked forward to those special times. She loved cooking, canning, gardening, and word search books. Surviving are daughter, Lorraine Larrabee, Wyalusing; granddaughter, Kristy (Daniel) Kring, Nichols, New York; grandson, Eric (Tracy) Larrabee, Herrickville; great-grandson, Tobias Larrabee, Herrickville; great-granddaughter, Karen Larrabee, Herrickville; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Dean Chilson, Dushore, Nelson and Lois Chilson, Terrytown; four sisters, Joyce Kipp, New Albany, Marguerite Yonkin, Dushore, Alice Campbell, Ulster, and Beverly Chilson, Dushore. CLAPPER Mrs. Verna J. Davis, 92, of RR 2 Box 2093, Laceyville,Pa. (Indian Hill), died at the Highlands, in Laporte, Pa., on Tuesday evening,Feb. 9, 2010, where she had been a resident since October 2009. Mrs. Davis wasformally of Clapper Hill, and South Auburn. She was born on Clapper Hill,Bradford County, Pa., on Jan. 12, 1918, the daughter of the late O.D. and LenaSMITH Clapper. Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her first husband H. CharlesMCMICKEN who died
on March 10,1977, and her second husband Myron K. Davis who died
on Sept. 29, 2003. Mrs. Davis worked as a waitress at Betty's Diner onBrowntown Mountain, between Wyalusing and Laceyville, for many years. She alsowas a seamstress at the Meshoppen Dress Factory from 1965 until her retirementin 1990. In her spare time she enjoyed baking, especially making wedding cakesfor many couples, in and around South Auburn. She also loved to sew, makingmany of her Christmas gifts for her family and friends. In her later years, sheenjoyed fishing at many of the ponds around South Auburn. Besides beingvery active in the South Auburn community, she was a 60-year member of theSouth Auburn Grange No. 1188. Surviving are: her two sons and herdaughter-in-laws Charles O. and Pat McMicken of Laceyville, Pa. and Neale andPatti McMicken of Tunkhannock, Pa.; her 12 grandchildren; and 22great-grandchildren; her extended family of her step-daughter, Suzanne Davis,of Detroit, Mich., and her step-sons, Clarke Davis, of Towanda, Pa., MyronDavid Davis of Baltimore, Md., Phillip Michael Davis of Wyalusing, Pa., andLloyd Davis of Athens, Pa.; 15 step-grandchildren; manystep-great-grandchildren; also surviving are her sister, Mrs. Blanche Woodruffof Chenango Forks, N.Y., and many nieces and nephews. He loved to hunt, fish, playing baseballin his younger years, and most of all he loved the time he could spend with hisgrandchildren at their sporting events. TED R. COBB, 60, of Main Street, Laceyville, passed away on Monday afternoon, Dec. 21, 2020, at the Abington Manor in Clarks Summit, where he had been a resident for the last couple of months. Born in Meshoppen on July 28, 1960, he was the twin son of the late Robert “Bud” P. Cobb, Sr., who passed away on Oct. 1, 2001, and the late Marguerite “Peg” H. Williams Cobb, who passed away on Oct. 16, 2017. Ted was the first baby ever delivered by Dr. Karl Peterson of Wyalusing, the very first of thousands of babies who were delivered by Doc Pete. After graduating from Wyalusing Valley High School with the Class of 1979, he began working as a truck driver for Welles Mills in Wyalusing until a fire ended the feed business there. Ted then took a job at Whipple’s Lumber and remained there until his retirement. In his youth, Ted enjoyed playing Little League baseball and high school football. Later in life, he continued his love of Little League baseball by attending the annual Little League World Series in Williamsport. Ted also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his good friend, Everell Fisk, and cherished being surrounded most of all by his many friends. Ted is survived by his son, Ted R. Cobb of Indiana and a grandson; brothers, Robert “Buddy” P. Cobb of Towanda and Terry A. Cobb (Terry) of Wyalusing; stepbrothers, Robert D. Wiggins (Patsy) of Johnson City, TN and C. David Wiggins (Nancy Parsons) of Sayre; stepsister, Joanne M. Adams (Burton) of Colley, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. ERNEST WESLEY COLE SR., age 87, of Orwell Township Rome RR 1 diedJan. 17, 2005 at Towanda Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit. Familyand friends remember Ernest Ernie or E.W.) as the tireless worker, generousfriend, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he was the majority ofhis life. In addition to farming the land he was born on in HerrickTownship, he worked over the years as a logger, trucker, foreman at J. V.Taylor’s, construction worker and cattle buyer. He also served as atownship supervisor and Republican committeeman, and on the Wyalusing SchoolBoard. Born in 1917 to Rev. Frank and Francelia Hall Cole the ninth oftwelve children, he developed – as did all his siblings – a life-long talentand love for music. In his early years he was the leader of the Camptowncommunity band and he sang solo and with others publicly until recentyears. He is survived by his seven children and their spouses; Bonita andJohn Lyles of Chicago, Ill.; Ralph “Sam” and Peggy Cole of Goshen, Va.; NancyCole and Peter Seidman of Miami, Fla.; Ernest and Lourdes Cole of GranvilleSummit, Pa.; James and Susan Cole of Rummerfield, Pa.; Jeffrey and Tiffany Coleof North Rome, Pa.; and Timothy Cole of Rome, Pa. He also leaves 11 grandchildren;Theresa Evans; Jeremy, Curtis, Grant, Sara, Edward and Jared Cole; JenniferSherman; and Kyla and Shianne Lyles. 88, of Cherry Township, Dushore, Pa., died
on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at Dar-Way Elder Care in Forksville, Pa. He wasborn on Dec. 20, 1921, a son of the late Kemerly and Edna (Kingsley) Conner. Anative of Sullivan County, Reese was born in Cherry Township, on the familydairy farm, where he worked until 1965. He worked several years for EndicottJohnson Shoe Factory in Mildred. Prior to his retirement in 1985, Reese workedfor the Masonite Corporation in Towanda for 17 years; after his retirementReese worked part-time for Saxe's Farms. Reese married the former Ruth Jacksonof Wyalusing in March of 1955, and they celebrated 36 years of marriage untilher passing in 1991. He was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church,Zion Chapel, of Dushore. He was also a member of Evergreen Lodge No. 163F.&.A.M, of Monroeton, Scottish Rite, of Williamsport, and Irem Temple, ofDallas. Reese enjoyed traveling, especially the cruises with the Lutheranchurch. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching sports, particularly PennState football. He leaves surviving: two sons, Harold R. RONALD LEE ‘RONDO’CROFT, 62, of 87 Louis Road, Wyalusing, Pennsylvania, Terry Township, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Pennsylvania. Ron was born in Wyalusing, Pennsylvania, on Dec. 23, 1955, the son of Louis R. Croft Jr. and Lillian L. Vanderpool Croft. He was a graduate of Wyalusing Valley High School with the class of 1973. Ron was known by his family and many friends as a hard worker. He assisted on the family farm in Rienze and was employed by Taylor Cargill in Wyalusing for 31 years until health issues forced his retirement. Ron enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting with his son, son-in-law and in later years with his grandsons. He enjoyed playing bingo and occasionally going to the casino with his mother, Lillian Croft. He will be deeply missed by his mother, Lillian, with whom he resided on the family farm; son, Ronald Louis Croft and wife Samantha “Sammie “ Croft of Albion, New York; daughter, Melissa Ann Chilson and husband Scott Brad Chilson of Cadis, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Ryan Louis Croft, Trapper John Croft and Hanna Croft of Albion, New York; Billy Stephen Chilson and Destany Amber Chilson of Cadis, Pennsylvania; sister and brother-in-law, Ann Louise and Brad Delamater of Wyalusing; niece, Jessica Ann (Eric) Brigham of Laceyville, Pennsylvania; nephew, Devin Louis Delamater of Wyalusing; special great nieces, Harlee Ann and Rylee Rae Brigham of Laceyville as well as several cousins, bingo friends, and his special feline companion,“Chuck.” Ron was predeceased by his father, Louis R. Croft Jr. on May 11, 2004; infant sister, Linda Louise Croft; paternal grandparents, Louis Croft Sr. and Isabel Croft; maternal grandfather, Harold Vanderpool; maternal grandmother and husband, Margaret and Grover Hoover; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018, with a funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pennsylvania. Interment will be in the Wyalusing Cemetery, Wyalusing, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions in Ron’s memory may be directed to the New Albany Volunteer Fire Company, where Ron enjoyed playing bingo and socializing with friends, in care of Mike Epler, P.O.
