RAISE IN PAY NOT ASSURED New Teacher Minimum Rate Discussed chairman of the School CommitW'EST SPRINGFIELD The tee's salary committee Wednesday said a state law which Jan. 1 will raise minimum salaries here by $200 would not necessarily mean a raise for all teachers. Awaits Studies The chairman, Edmund Lovett, said he was not prepared to say if the raise would be carried to other teachers until studies are completed comparing salaries here with those in surrounding communities. Lovett said the $200 increase in the minimum. did not auto(matically School Committee would raise the maximums by a like amount.

School Supt. Chris Grammaticas said Wednesday adjustments should be made throughout the salary scale to "maintain an equitable situation on the salary scale." Grammaticas also said that an lacross-the-board raise would not maintain the spread between teachers at minimum salary, those with experience, those holding advanced degrees or with special training. Money Not Topic Lovett also said that in three meetings with the salary com-! mittee of the West Springfield Teachers Association, "we have (never talked loads teachers those A survey comparing, work in surrounding communities also is taken. Lovett said. Tuesday, WSTA president John' Rosenberg said the $200 raise should be passed on to all teachers.

Lovett said he was not now prepared to recommend similar action. "First we have to find out where we stand. There may be reasons to keep maximum salaries at present levels or to increase them. Right now we just don't know," Lovett said. Robinson Road Group of the ROBINSON RD.

SPOOK PARADE RANKS THINNED Rain Forces Abandonment of Costume Judging WEST SPRINGFIELD -It was perfect Halloween weather for real ghosts and goblins but not for the slim crowd of children who attended the Park reation Commission's Halloween parade Wednesday.

About 75 junior ghosts took their. raincoats off long enough to be judged and to march in the parade from the First National Store on Westfield St. to the library and back again. The space age, television characters, some novelty, costumes. and the old reliables spooks and all were represented in costumes.

There were more parents than children in the parade. The parents were equipped with umbrellas which kept both costumes and children reasonably dry. The grand prizes of two bicycles were awarded through a drawing rather than judging because of the small turnout. Winners were Ja net Webber, eight, of 291 Morgan Rd. and Mark Garutti, 10, of 14 Sylvan St.

Mark also won a prize in the costume judging. Most of the children stayed only' long enough to be judged and then' were whisked away by their parents. Wallace 1 1 :1 Rubinstein's Skin Dew Set first in beauty $5. 3.75 night cream. A non greasy beauty treatment while you sleep.
