The perfect chili fusion with a Mexican flair! This Taco Chili has received rave reviews from my friends and family.
Today is National Chili Day! Who is ready to celebrate with me? I have a yummy Taco Chili perfect for this special occasion.
Chili was one of our dinner staples growing up. My used to make a big batch of chili every few weeks. Her recipe was more of a traditional chili recipe. It had ground beef, tomatoes, kidney beans, onions, green peppers and chili powder. I like to add twists to my recipes so I created this mouthwatering Taco Chili. The feedback I’ve received so far about it has been favourable.
Taco Chili
It’s made with ground beef, onions, black beans, corn, tomatoes, taco sauce, chili powder and taco seasoning. It’s chili with a Mexican flair!
Dress it up with shredded cheese, sour cream, green onions and some corn chips for dunking. It tastes like tacos with a hint of chili flavour fusion.
I gave a storage container of chili to my friend, Becky, to bring home. This recipe makes a huge batch and it was more than Bridget and I could eat ourselves. Plus, I like to share what I make with friends and family.
I got a call last night from Becky’s boyfriend. He wanted me to tell you that it was the best chili he’s ever tried. That made me feel great! I knew it was a good recipe, but didn’t realize it was that good. Give it a try and let me know what you think, too!

The only difference is in the preparation: Chili gets canned tomatoes and beans and a bit of cocoa powder, which adds depth and richness, while tacos get a splash of vinegar and a touch of brown sugar, giving them an irresistible sweet-hot tang.
Is chili powder the same thing as chili seasoning? No. Chili powder is made with ground chilis and sometimes the addition of paprika, cumin and Mexican Oregano. Chili seasoning is a combination of 8 spices used to make chili or other recipes that call for chili seasoning.
Elevate your chili recipe by adding an extra layer of flavor. Cocoa powder, bacon, cinnamon, ground coffee and tomato paste will all add a rich sweet & salty flavors that are sure to surprise and delight.
If your recipe calls for chili powder, taco seasoning might be a sufficient stand-in for some Mexican-American dishes like ground beef for burritos or nachos. Taco seasoning might not be the best for chili soup or other dishes that don't lean more towards the classic American "taco" flavors.
Homemade Chili Seasoning Mix (McCormick Copycat): 2 Tbsp chili powder, 2 tsp cumin, 1 tsp salt, ½ tsp paprika, ½ tsp garlic powder, ½ tsp onion powder, ½ tsp black pepper, ½ tsp oregano, ½ tsp cocoa powder, ¼ tsp cayenne 🌶️ #chiliseasoning #spiceblends.

Packet Taco Seasoning replacement: if you only want to make enough taco seasoning to replace 1 packet, use the following amounts: 1 tablespoon chili powder. ¼ teaspoon garlic powder. ¼ teaspoon onion powder.
I'm especially partial to using taco seasoning to flavor Mexican rice or a side of black beans. It works great as a rub for steak, chicken, fish or shrimp, especially during summertime grilling season. I also often sprinkle it in soups or add it to a vinaigrette when I'm craving a zesty salad.
